If you are planning on moving your cockatiel, you should refrain from using a large cage to do so, as this can create assorted hazards for your pet. Many cockatiels are quite nervous, and if you try to move yours in a large cage, it may begin thrashing it’s wings forcefully. This bit of thrashing about can cause harm to your cockatiel.

If this carries on throughout the trip, your pet will arrive anxious and fatigued. And even after arriving at your destination, it is apt to take quite some time for your cockatiel to relax and feel somewhat comfortable. This sort of method simply isn’t suitable to your pet’s peace of mind.

A better method of transportation would be to set your cockatiel in a bird carrier box, which is much smaller and will subdue your bird to a point. This is advantageous to your cockatiel because it will keep its wings from thrashing.

If you have just purchased a cockatiel, the pet retailer should provide you with a correctly- sized cardboard box for the bird to be taken home in. If they do not voluntarily offer one to you, you can simply inquire about one.

On a side note, it’s a smart idea to put some seed in your cockatiel’s box if you have to journey more than a half hour from the pet shop. Doing so will encourage your pet to stay more unagitated. The cause is that cockatiels find comfort in the vicinity of food.

In addition to boxes expressly made for your cockatiels, you can also transport them in specialized cages. However, these are more for people who intend to move their cockatiel pets around often.

If you do plan on purchasing a bird cage made particularly for your cockatiel, make sure it is no bigger than 12 X 10 X 10 inches. When looking for a suitable cage fashioned for travel, make sure that it is constructed of wire mesh, not metal bars.
